Agriculture Spokespersons

Derek and I traveled to the Kansas Young Farmers and Ranchers state conference in Wichita this weekend. Because we serve on the American Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers committee, we are still members of the state committee. It was great reconnecting with old committee members and meeting new ones.

The theme of this year’s conference is Farming Beyond Your Field. With so many voices speaking out against agriculture, producers must now, more than ever before, tell their story, right wrongs and connect with consumers and those questioning their food source. With more access than ever before to information and news, people have a hard time pulling fact from lies. That’s where producers must come in. We need to let consumers know beef, chicken and pork are healthy and safe sources of protein. That there are more hormones in cabbage than milk and that pesticides do not harm crops.

Every industry and major company has a spokesperson. Producers need to be agriculture’s spokespersons and spread the truth about agriculture.
