Our neighborhood has gone to the cows – literally! They started moving in right after the first of the year and they’ve stuck around and made themselves quite at home – holding playdates for the kids, lunch gatherings and the occasional late-night party. I thought moving to the country would eliminate the noisy neighbors – boy was I wrong.
I ventured out to the pasture this morning to meet and greet the new ladies – and their little ones. It was lunch time and they were out enjoying the sunshine and wide open spaces! They were nice enough to let me on their property but really didn’t appreciate me venturing into their territory. The dog – Roxy- also attempted the greet the ladies. They didn’t take to kindly to the intruder!
Here are a couple of pictures of our new neighbors – fortunately they are too cute to kick out.
Lunch time!
Lunch time!
Even mother cows don’t like their little ones running around with mud on their faces!
And another one stops for a meal of mother’s milk
A momma calf cleans the rear of her calf. With no wet wipes to do the job it’s up to a little nose grease to keep things clean!
These ladies run the place! They’re the neighborhood watch team and they’re onto me.
A little bull calf musters the courage to meet the new four-legged visitor.
This little guy thinks he’s being helpful by licking mother in return for her cleaning – cute!
Like any other this lady is multi-tasking by helping her friend fix her hair – while feeding her calf!
The adventerous calf gets a little back up from mom.
Calves can wander and explore – just not out of eye sight of mom.
This lady still isn’t sure she likes me. I politely exited after this little stare down.
I am a city girl that is learning about life on the farm. I met and married a fourth-generation farmer, Derek. I am now a farmer's wife and country girl. The move has required a few changes and a lot of learning. But I wouldn't change my new life and all of the little lessons and surprises it provides.
